A Guide For Teens and Parents

About This Session

Continuing our effort to promote mental health and wellbeing for the community, the Hindu Parents Network (HPN), along with local parents, is hosting an in-person event for the teens & families.

This session offers a safe and compassionate space for teens and their families to address stress, depression, and anxiety in teens (7-12 grade students).

Session Details

  • Format: In-person event divided into 2 sessions
    • Session 1: For Parents Only, June 7th, Sunday, 5 to 7 pm EST
    • Session 2: For Teens+Parents, June 14th, Sunday, 4 to 7 pm EST
  • Fees & Registration: Free Event, Registration Required
  • * The parents must attend both sessions. Teens should attend only the second session along with their parents.
  • We will be hosting more such sessions in the future, so please register only if you are able to commit to attendance for both sessions.

What We’ll Cover

  • Session 1 (For Parents Only): Identifying early signs of anxiety and depression in teens and how to handle themselves as parents in those moments.
  • Session 2 (For Parents and Teens): This session will engage students in understanding their challenges and possible solutions, as well as how parents can help and when they should seek professional help.

Speaker

Dr. Madhavan Thuppal

Medical Director at Southwestern Human Services, Pittsburgh

Dr. Madhavan Thuppal is an experienced psychiatrist with a career spanning over four decades, beginning in 1978. Trained in both India and the United States, he has served as Professor and Head of Psychiatry at the National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped in Secunderabad. He has also received advanced training from universities in India, Canada, and the U.S., including the University of Alberta and SUNY Stony Brook. Dr. Thuppal currently practices in the Greater Pittsburgh Area, serving children, adolescents, and adults. His specialties include child and adolescent psychiatry, adult psychiatry, and addiction psychiatry.
