Explaining Caste to Middle Schoolers

During their formative years, Hindu kids will come across the false equivalence of “Hinduism” with “caste”. It could happen as early as middle school through their textbooks, or through highly demeaning skits that attempt to explain “Hindu caste”. Needless to say, Hindu kids who encounter such material end up with low self-esteem and become ashamed of their religion.
HPN (Hindu Parents Network) seeks to remediate the situation by offering both parents and students the tools to advocate for themselves. This is especially needed in the light of the highly distorted version of Hindu Dharma and caste being taught by teachers in American schools.
Hindu parents are invited to join with their middle schoolers and teens in our workshop: “Explaining caste to middle schoolers”. It will be an interactive session where students are highly encouraged to ask questions.
