Hindu History Through Stories– Part 2 (Mahabharata)
The Mahabharata is not a myth or mere story — it is an Itihasa, a historical record interwoven with profound life and spiritual wisdom. Its timeless lessons continue to shape Hindu civilization and offer a powerful guide for today’s youth, especially those in the diaspora navigating questions of identity, values, and belonging.
At the same time, the Mahabharata is often misrepresented as “mythology” or reduced to a tale of war. This course addresses such misconceptions directly, showing how the epic is both history (Itihasa) and a guide to Dharma. Students will gain clarity on what the Mahabharata really represents — a living tradition, not just a story.
What This Course Explores
- Historicity of the Mahabharata — why this epic is more than legend, and how archaeology, tradition, and cultural memory affirm its place in history.
- Character Analysis with Storytelling — explore figures such as Krishna, Arjuna, Bhishma, Draupadi, and Yudhishthira through their choices, dilemmas, and defining qualities. This is not simple narration, but analytical exploration integrated with storytelling.
- Addressing Misconceptions — critically examine and clear common misunderstandings about the Mahabharata, Dharma, and the nature of Hindu epics.
- Dharma in Action — how the epic illustrates the complexity of Dharma when choices are not black and white.
- Epic Themes — justice, leadership, duty, and moral courage, and how they resonate today.
