Mahabharata Beyond Stories: Summer Camp

The Mahabharata is often introduced to children as a story of a great war or a collection of dramatic episodes. For youth ages 10 and above, this limited view is no longer sufficient—and can miss its true depth.

Our camp presents the epic for what it truly is: a civilizational text that explores life, choice, character, consequence, Dharma, and the complexities of human nature and decision-making.

Designed for youth ready to think critically, ask questions, and seek clarity, this program goes beyond storytelling. Each session blends guided exploration with group discussions, scenario-based activities, and interactive games that help students think through real-life dilemmas and choices.

Prerequisite: We recommend that the participants refresh their knowledge on the Mahabharata before the camp dates. Below are the recommended resources:

  1. Mahabharata series on Hotstar.
  2. Illustrated Mahabharata by Shubha Vilas

For those new to the Mahabharata, the camp sparks curiosity and engagement. For those already familiar, it reveals deeper layers—lesser-known episodes, moral dilemmas, and multiple perspectives that highlight the complexity of human behavior. Through collaborative activities and conversations, students explore how Dharma operates in difficult situations and how thoughtful decision-making shapes outcomes in life.

What Students Will Gain

  • A clear understanding of the historic foundation of the Mahabharata
  • A civilizational lens to view India’s ancient history beyond colonial narratives
  • A sense of confidence and rootedness in being part of a living tradition

“I really loved the Hindu history classes! The characters we learned about were super interesting, and there was so much to learn from their stories. The classes were fun and kept me interested the whole time. The teachers were really nice and explained things in a way I could understand.”
