What This Camp Explores
- Dharma vs. Religion:
Dharma in the Hindu context isn’t just about religious beliefs or rituals—it’s a living guide for right action. Dharma is about making choices with integrity, compassion, and responsibility. Unlike religion, which is often based on fixed doctrines and rituals, Dharma applies to everyday life—how we treat others, how we handle challenges, and how we grow as individuals. - Real-World Scenarios and Conversations:
Navigating life as a young person in a multicultural world can often mean facing situations where you feel different from your peers. Whether it’s cultural traditions, values, or family expectations, these differences can create tension. This camp will explore how Dharma can guide you in these situations and offer a framework for thinking clearly about your decisions.
Through real-world scenarios, we’ll discuss challenges like:
- Balancing cultural identity with peer influence: What happens when you’re the only one in your class who celebrates a specific festival? Or when you want to follow family traditions, but your friends do things differently? Dharma teaches us how to stand firm in our identity while respecting others.
- Handling peer pressure to act against your values: How do you deal with situations where you’re being asked to go along with something that doesn’t align with your ethical beliefs? Dharma helps you find courage and clarity to make the right choice, even when it’s hard.
- Dealing with misunderstandings of your beliefs: Sometimes, people might not understand your perspective, or they might misinterpret your culture or faith. How do you navigate those conversations in a respectful and understanding way? Dharma shows us how to be patient and clear, while standing firm in our values.
- Students will discuss these scenarios, engage in interactive conversations, and explore how Dharma can be a source of strength when navigating personal and social challenges.
- Applying Dharma to Daily Life:
Dharma isn’t just something abstract—it’s a practical guide for how to live with integrity and peace. In this camp, students will learn how Dharma can be applied to:- Making decisions that reflect your authentic self
- Handling conflicts with empathy and respect
- Finding balance between family expectations and personal aspirations
- Embracing diversity without feeling lost or disconnected from your heritage
